Éric Karsenti est le lauréat 2015 de la médaille d’or du CNRS. Biologiste de réputation internationale et directeur de recherche émérite au CNRS, il est récompensé pour ses contributions majeures à la compréhension des mécanismes permettant la division cellulaire. La carrière d'Éric Karsenti s'est déroulée en grande partie au Laboratoire européen de biologie moléculaire (EMBL), à Heidelberg, en Allemagne. Véritable aventurier du vivant, il est aussi à l'initiative de l'expédition Tara Oceans, lancée en 2009, dont l'objectif était de cartographier la biodiversité des océans et d’améliorer la compréhension du rôle – clé - de la vie microscopique des océans. Achevée en mars 2012, Tara Oceans a livré ses premiers résultats en mai 2015.
